As reported on CNN, the US Armed Services are using social media sites Twitter and Facebook to disseminate information about various events across the globe. One of their goals is to get information out before the mainstream media has the opportunity to spin the story. They've tweeted about skirmishes and casualties in Iraq. The Army is also using the medium to aid in recruiting efforts. The Army figures they are the best source of the Army's story and choose to take control of that information.
Adoption of social media on this level is great for the industry. As many of us search for ways to utilize these sites as best as possible, we continue to find new an innovative uses. It seems the Army has found a way to incorporate social media into their marketing strategy.
